Nature's High-Energy Food: The Macadamia

The shelled macadamia nuts are about the size of a marble and have a rich, sweet, delicate, buttery flavor and texture enjoyed as the world's finest nut in both desserts and savory dishes. They taste so good while being good for you.
Macadamias are a high-energy food and in fact lowers total and LDL cholesterol levels. For an ideal diet they need to be eaten in conjunction with a range of foods. Macadamias contain only natural genes not being genetically modified.
Macadamia Nutrition
Macadamias are highly nutritious nuts. They have the highest amount of beneficial monounsaturated fats of any nut and also contain:
9% Protein – play an important body building role in muscle structure, connective tissues and blood plasma development.
- 9% Carbohydrate – present as the sugars, sucrose, fructose, glucose and maltose, plus some starch-based material, supplying energy to the body.
- 2% Dietary fiber – a complex carbohydrate that:
- Provides roughage
- Slows digestion
- Reduces hunger
- Promotes desirable intestinal bacteria
- Reduces constipation
- Phytonutrients –these are biologically active components that act as antioxidants, which scavenge the free radicals that oxidize blood fats, protecting our body systems.
The oils in macadamia are:
- 3.5% Polyunsaturated
- 12.5% Saturated
- 84% Monounsaturated – this “good” fat, essential in an ideal diet, reduce blood serum cholesterol levels, as well as enhancing the protective high-density lipoproteins and suppressing undesirable low-density lipoproteins.

- Pantothenic acid (B5)
- Folate
Rich in Minerals:

Macadamias improve and facilitate the balance of the body's manufacturing of essential fatty acids (omega 6 and omega 3) and eicosanoids.

Macadamia nuts have a very high fat content and must be stored carefully to avoid rancidity. The nuts should be light in color. They will darken with age as the inherent oil turns rancid. Refrigerate unopened nuts in an airtight container up to six months or freeze up to a year. Once opened, refrigerate and use macadamia nuts within two months.
